| The Montague on the Gardens
I landed exhausted, after a long flight from Cape Town, but the moment I grabbed my bags and made my way out of arrivals, the excitement kicked in and I couldn’t wait to set foot in London town again!
A Georgian townhouse was where I’d catch up on all that sleep I couldn’t get to on the plane.
In chic and sophisticated Bloomsbury, The Montague on the Gardens Hotel is a 5-minute walk away from Russell Square station and just across the road from the British Museum. It’s in the middle of the city but feels as if completely out of the hustle and bustle of London life, and I quite liked that.
Stepping into The Montague, there’s no denying the old-world charm found in everything! From the appropriately dressed doorman to the beautiful reception space with chandelier light fixtures, and the bold black and gold fireplace – the charm is everywhere.
Another thing that immediately sprung to mind whilst standing in reception was how this lavish hotel was very clearly linked to The Twelve Apostles Hotel, South Africa. Both carry that same homely feeling throughout and a very certain style. The Red Carnation Hotel Collection is known for its excellence, with properties in London, Dorset, Florida, Guernsey, Ireland, Geneva, and South Africa. I knew 100% I would feel completely rested by the morning.
Head to pillow, I had the sweetest sleep. The guest rooms, luxury suites and large apartment suite are all styled individually, so each one has been decorated differently with its own flair. Waking up in my turquoise designed room I picked up the newspaper I had requested the evening before, that was waiting outside my door, and took a moment to appreciate the start of this London journey.
Voted as no.6 in The Top Hotels in London by Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards 2016, The Montague offers all the amenities to ensure a very comfy stay. There’s also a gorgeous terrace, al fresco dinning and a sophisticated bar serving delicious cocktails and cigars.
I sat down for a scrumptious breakfast, with every morning bite you could want on offer. What I really loved though was the fresh fruits and vegetables by the juice station, you pick what mix of freshness you feel like and its juiced on the spot.
When staying at The Montague, feeling at home is a given, the staff are dedicated, warm and friendly. It’s almost as if you’ve come to stay-over, visiting with the family.
